Dictionaries
There is more than one official Scrabble dictionary in each language. We bring you a selection of the more commonly played dictionaries to suit the game you are playing:
- CSW - Collins Scrabble Words
- The Collins Scrabble dictionary.
- ENABLE - Enhanced North American Benchmark LExicon
- A popular reference list, but not widely taken up for official games.
- Italian
- An Italian dictionary.
- ODS4 - L'Officiel du Scrabble v4
- Official French Scrabble Dictionary (4th edition).
- ODS5 - L'Officiel du Scrabble v5
- Official French Scrabble Dictionary (5th edition).
- OpenTaal
- The Dutch 'open language' dictionary.
- OSPD - Official Scrabble Players Dictionary v4
- First published in 1978 by the National Scrabble Association for speakers of United States English. Intended for school and family use, not tournament play.
- SOWPODS - OSPD + OSW (Official Scrabble Words, derived from the Chambers Dictionary)
- This is used in tournament Scrabble in most English speaking countries.
- TWL - Tournament Word List
- Used for tournament play in USA, Canada, Thailand and Israel. TWL is much smaller than the SOWPODS dictionary used for tournaments in other parts of the world.
- YAWL - Yet Another Word List
- Mendel Cooper's public domain word list.
For most English games TWL is a good dictionary and it's our default choice. Our puzzles can use different dictionaries, so be sure to check the puzzle details before playing.
